International Space Station
Now in the post-Space Race era we live in today countries such as Russia and the United States who were once in competition to achieve success in space, are now working together. Along with other governments such as Japan and parts of Europe, they are building the International Space Station, or ISS for short. US space shuttle missions and Russia Soyuz missions have been delivering new pieces of the station in to orbit since late 1999 and plan to be still doing so until late 2001. The pieces will of now be left in orbit around the earth and later added to the already partially constructed operating station. Once completed, the large space station will be used by scientists and astronauts to conduct experiments in earths orbit with zero gravity, and it will also serve as a docking station for space craft from all countries.
